The Grounds is a transformative 100-acre mixed use development in the heart of Winston-Salem’s sports and entertainment district and adjacent to Wake Forest University, set to be a year-round gathering place with vibrant retail, dining, office, living, and activity spaces.

Phase I includes $40M in state- and city-funded infrastructure including new walking paths, reconfigured roads, and utilities; 42,000 square feet of experiential retail surrounded by patios and lawns; a 130,000 square foot office building anchored by Wake Forest University offices; a 230-unit multifamily apartment building serving 500+ residents; and 22 for-sale luxury loft-style condos.

The Grounds is poised to capture and grow the momentum of the largest sports and entertainment facilities west of Greensboro and North of Charlotte, already home to 1.1 million visitors annually, by providing even more places to shop, dine, live, work, stay, and play. Developed in partnership with Carter as well as Wake Forest University and the City of Winston-Salem, The Grounds is a prime example of public-private partnership in action.

Impact

The Grounds will turn parking lots into gathering places, and truly transform a neglected yet in-demand area of Winston-Salem – driving upwards of $1.3 billion in business sales through 2034.
