Role Description
Front Street Capital is seeking a Director of Finance & Corporate Controller to lead and scale the firm’s financial operations, reporting, and infrastructure.
This is a new position within the company as it transitions from an outsourced accounting model over the next year. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while establishing scalable processes, controls, and systems to support continued growth.
The Director will own the integrity, transparency, and scalability of the firm’s financial systems while serving as a trusted partner working closely with executive leadership and external advisors and serves as a key steward of financial discipline across the organization.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with a strong technical foundation and a builder’s mindset—capable of operating at both a strategic and hands-on level within a high-performing, entrepreneurial environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Accounting Leadership & Oversight
Own all accounting and treasury operations across the firm’s entities, including funds, partnerships, and property-level structures
Lead quarterly and annual close processes and preparation of financial statements with a focus on accuracy, timeliness, and consistency
Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment and industry-best accounting policies
Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors and tax advisors
Ensure readiness for institutional capital, audits, and increased regulatory complexity
2. Investor & Leadership Reporting
Oversee development of institutional-quality financial reporting at both fund and asset levels
Standardize reporting across the portfolio to improve consistency and transparency
Partner closely with CFO and investor relations to support capital reporting, tax, and related investor communications
Deliver clear, decision-useful financial insights to executive leadership
3. Platform & Systems Development
Lead the evaluation, implementation, and optimization of accounting and reporting systems/platforms
Design scalable processes that support growth and reduce operational risk
Develop documentation, controls, and playbooks to institutionalize best practices
Develop and manage an internal team responsible for executing on these systems daily
Eliminate manual workflows and improve data integrity across systems
4. Strategic Finance & Business Partnership
Provide financial oversight and validation in support of underwriting and investment decisions
Develop portfolio-level insights, including cash flow forecasting and performance analysis
Support leadership with scenario planning and capital visibility
Contribute to cross-functional initiatives that improve operational and financial performance
Qualifications
Required
CPA, CMA, CGMA, or similar professional certification required
Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including:
Real estate, private equity, or fund accounting experience strongly preferred
Business services accounting and/or public accounting experience preferred
Experience managing complex, multi-entity structures (funds, partnerships, SPVs)
Proven ability to lead accounting functions and improve systems/processes
Experience building and/or managing a team of direct reports preferred
Technical & Functional Expertise
Functional knowledge of income tax basis and GAAP financials and real estate accounting practices
Comfortable flagging any tax implication in financial statements
Experience with fund accounting, capital allocations, and investor reporting
Strong systems orientation; experience implementing or optimizing accounting platforms
Advanced Excel proficiency; experience with reporting tools is a plus
